We have arranged with the Linn County Extension Master Gardeners for a fall gardening series that we know you’ll enjoy. Join us on Wednesdays in September starting at 6:30pm to learn how to prepare you gardens for winter and what fun things you can still do with them in the fall.
On September 4, Linn County Master Gardener Mike Anderson will help you discover trees that make excellent additions to the home landscape in "Outstanding Trees for the Midwest Home Gardener." Mike will discuss his favorites for fall color, spring blooms, unique leaf shape, trunk structure, or growth habit.
On September 11, come for "Freezing and Drying Your Bounty." You have enjoyed the fruits of your labor all summer, but can you also enjoy the produce in the winter? Linn County Master Gardener Phil Pfister will show you how to safely process your produce, and will provide the tips and techniques to ensure success when freezing and drying fruits, vegetables and herbs.
On September 18 our program is on "Ornamental Grasses." Do you want to plant ornamental grasses with wonderful fall seed heads? Are you worried about the grasses spreading? Linn County Master Gardener Deb Walser will show you which grasses are non-spreading/clump forming and hardy for Eastern Iowa. Many she grows herself. Come see and start planning for next spring.
And finally, on September 25, travel is the next best thing to gardening. Take a photo journey with Linn County Master Gardener Zora Ronan and visit a few favorite gardens in Europe and the Caribbean in his program "Where in the World ... ?"
